GOVERNORS OF OHIO 1803-1903.

In accordance with the provisions of the constitution of

1802, (Schedule, Sec. 6), an election for governor, members of

the general assembly, etc., was held on the second Tuesday of

January, 1803, Edward Tiffin being elected Chief Executive.

The General Assembly convened at Chillicothe on the first Tues-

day of March, 1803, but it was to hold regular sessions there-

after "on the first Monday in December, in every year." (Article

1, Sec. 25, Const. 1802.)

The following day, March 3, Governor Tiffin took the oath

of office, which office he was to hold "until the first Monday of

December, 1805." (Article 2, Sec. 3, Const. 1802.)

The constitution of 1851 provided for biennial sessions of

the General Assembly and that all regular sessions should com-

mence on the first Monday in January; (Article 2, Sec. 25, Const.

1851) ; while the term of office of the Governor was to commence

on the second Monday of January, (Article 3, Sec. 2, Const.

1851).
