Studies announces a manuscript
competition in Eighteenth-Century
Studies. A publication contract and $1,500
will be awarded for the best book-length
manuscript submitted in the field of
Eighteenth-Century Studies. Manuscripts
must be submitted before December

The Forest History Group of the
International Union of Forestry Research
Organizations, in cooperation with the
Forest History Society and the Orga-
nization of Tropical Studies, is
sponsoring a conference on Latin American
Forest and Conservation History in San
Jose, Costa Rica, February 17-22,
1991. The organizers seek presentations
from specialists in history, social
sciences, and also the natural and
physical sciences. The conference will
consist of three days of paper sessions,
followed by a two-day excursion to
observe forest conditions and use. The
sessions will be in San Jose, and the
two-day bus tour will include a night at
the La Selva field station of the
Organization of Tropical Studies. Those
interested in presenting a paper or
otherwise attending the conference

twenty-five years at the University of
Akron; Daniel Nelson of the University
of Akron received the 1989 Ohio Academy
of History Publication Award for
his book, American Rubber Workers and
Organized Labor; Shelley O.

Martin Wainwright have joined the
faculty at the University of Akron;
