Remember
Radio in the Classroom? Then perhaps you can help. I am doing doctoral research on educational
radio. I hope to interview people who have had any kind of experience
with the Ohio (radio) School of the Air or the American School of the
Air. I am interested in learning about your experience as a radio teacher,
administrator, writer, producer, or researcher. I’d also be very
interested in hearing from former classroom teachers who used school of
the air radio programs regularly or from former students who remember
hearing school of the air programs in class. By sharing your experiences
in educational radio, you will be making a unique contribution to the
history of this important topic. Contact Bill Bianchi: wrbianc@aol.com;

Do you
have photos of old-time Akron that feature women? Is
your mother, grandmother, or other long-ago female relative from Akron?
Do you have have pictures of them, and are you willing to share those
photos? If so, three Akron researchers want to hear from you. Carrie Herman,
director of Business Development of United Disability Services; Penny
Fox, owner of Words Count, and Dr. Kathleen Endres, distinguished professor
of Communication at The University of Akron, are preparing a photographic
history of Akron that focuses on women. The book will be published by
Arcadia Publishing next year. The photos need not feature famous women.
The researchers would like images of women from various times in Akron’s
history. The photos can include baby pictures, children at school, wedding
pictures, and images of family life. The researchers are also seeking
photos of women involved in activities outside the home: working, participating
in clubs and organizations, shopping, or enjoying a day out at Summit
Beach Park. Ideally the women in the photos would be identified, but this
is not required. The photos will be scanned and returned to the owner
very quickly. Proceeds of the sale of this book will go to the Women’s
Endowment Fund of the Akron Community Foundation and the Women’s
Depository at the University of Akron. If you would like to share your
photos, please contact Penny Fox, P.O. Box 1442, Norton, Ohio, 44203;
telephone 330-745-4552; e-mail smallbizconsulting@yahoo.com.
