The 2003 Ohio Academy of History Spring Meeting will be held April 25–26 at Kent State, Stark Campus. The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission invites applications for its 2003-2004 Scholars in Residence Program, including applications for collaborative residencies. The Scholars in Residence program provides support for full-time research and study in the manuscript and artifact collections maintained by any Commission facility, including the Pennsylvania State Archives, The State Museum of Pennsylvania, and twenty-six historic sites and museums around the state. Collaborative residencies fund research that relates to the interpretive mission and advances the programmatic goals of any PHMC program or facility, including the agency�s history sites and museums. A collaborative residency proposal must be filed jointly by the interested scholar and host program/facility. Residency programs are open to all who are conducting research on Pennsylvania history, including academic scholars, public sector history professionals, independent scholars, graduate students, educators, writers, filmmakers, and others. Residencies are available for four to twelve weeks between May 1, 2003, and April 30, 2004, at the rate of $1,500 per month. However, because both the Pennsylvania State Archives and the State Museum of Pennsylvania will be undergoing extensive renovations during 2003-2004, archival collections may only be available through August 2003; certain artifact collections will not be available for study at all during the 2003-2004 residency period. The ABC-CLIO America: History and Life Award is a biennial award of $750 given to recognize and encourage scholarship in American history in the journal literature advancing new perspectives on accepted interpretations or previously unconsidered topics. The award is not confined to any particular subject area or chronological period but instead seeks to recognize journal articles that display a pathbreaking character, articles that do not simply elaborate previous interpretations but that propose new perspectives or examine new areas and in so do�ng extend historical knowledge and raise new avenues of investigation. In seeking to recognize such pivotal articles the award acknowledges their creative achievement in breaking the constraints of conventional thinking in their approach to historical sources. Individuals as well as editors are encouraged to submit nominations. Each entry must be published during the period of November 16, 2000, through November 15, 2002. One copy of each entry must be received by each member of the award committee by December 1, 2002. No late submissions will be accepted. The author of the winning article will receive $750 and a certificate. The award will be presented at the 2003 Annual Meeting of the Organization of American Historians in Memphis, Tennessee, April 3-6.
