188 THE OHIO HISTORICAL
QUARTERLY
Communication
TO THE EDITOR OF THE QUARTERLY:
In The Ohio Historical Quarterly of
October 1957, I reviewed The Negro
in the United States: A Brief History, by Dr. Rayford W. Logan. It has
been brought to my attention that the
sentence, "It is contended by some of
the author's immediate colleagues and
also acknowledged by him that this
book was based on masters' theses under
his guidance and written by stu-
dents of the department of history at
Howard University," is susceptible
of misinterpretation.
It does not mean that some of his
immediate colleagues had cast
aspersions upon his integrity; it does
not mean that he had acknowledged
that they had done so; and it does not
mean that students had participated
in the writing of the book.
