Whittlesey Pottery

Some Whittlesey pottery was just cordmarked, while other types were decorated with incised lines, notching, and stamped patterns. The fillets (fil-LAYS), or strips of clay applied to the vessels, were also popular with the Whittlesey culture. Shell tempering, even in the very late Tuttle Hill Notched pottery, was not often used. The pottery in this case is from Whittlesey sites in Cuyahoga and Lake Counties.
