The Miami Indians

In the 1600s and early 1700s, the Miami Indians were living in southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Later they moved into the Wabash and Maumee river valleys with a principal town at Fort Wayne. Eventually the Miami spread into the Miami River system and east to the Scioto valley. In the mid-1700s, one of their more important towns was Pickawillany along the Great Miami River near modern-day Piqua.
