Cole Cord-marked Pottery

Cole Cord-marked pottery is a later type distinguished by the extra coil of clay around the rim and the flange-like projections. The partially restored pot in this case, made around A.D. 1100, was found at the Decco site in southern Delaware County.

Similar pots have also been found in Muskingum County. These sites suggest that Late Woodland people continued to live in the central part of the state while a new cultural group, Fort Ancient, was developing in southern Ohio.
