Letter stating that he had written on Wednesday last regarding the Sandusky Rover Guards (Company A, Militia of the Reserve) who had resolved to recruit up their ranks to the requisite number and tender their services to the Government; asking how soon they would be ordered into camp after reporting the full number of men, if the present officers' commissions would be transferred into the regular service, and if the three months' men reenlisting with the reorganized Sandusky Rover Guards would be entitled to a $30.00 bounty; and stating that the reorganized Sandusky Rover Guards could get "quite a number" of three months' men provided that these men were certain they would get their back pay before leaving Ohio so that they could leave it with their friends.

Union College, W.C.T. in the Independent Order of Good Templars, and a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, that he did not want the pass unless it was given with the assurance that he would be sent home on a free pass once he understood drill, and that he would pay for his own rations while in camp if desired. Letter stating that his company would have been fairly organized long since if the Brigade Major had not pocketed the roll and poll book for two months instead of sending it to the Adjutant General's Department, that there was "a nest of rank secessionists" in the neighborhood who were bold and becoming bolder every day as they learned of Union reverses, that about twelve miles away there was a company of approximately ninety men drilling regularly calling themselves peace makers who openly proclaimed their devotion to Jefferson Davis and the South and who had gone so far as to put up a secession flag, that he had been unable to obtain arms even though they were surrounded by disunionists, that it was well known in southern Ohio that Jackson County was full of secessionists, and that without arms neither their property or lives would be safe.
