B. Stanton. To ? Letter stating that Robert K. Seig, a Private in Company E, 13th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, was clearly entitled to promotion for highly distinguished services, that in November 1861, Seig killed Lieutenant Colonel [St. George] Croghan near McCoy's Mill in Fayette County, Virginia under circumstances of extraordinary danger and with coolness and courage unsurpassed in the annals of the war, that Seig was a good scholar and a man of "unexceptionable" character, that Seig was twenty-four years old and five feet ten or eleven inches high, that Seig had failed in his application to the Federal Government, and that if deeds of heroism and noble daring were to be regarded in the war, Seig ought at least to be appointed a 1st Lieutenant so as to distinguish it from an ordinary, routine promotion.
