J[oel] F. Asper, Captain, Company H, 7th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Warren, Trumbull County, Ohio. To Adjutant General Charles W. Hill. Letter stating that he saw that Colonel E[rastus] B. Tyler of the 7th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry had been nominated by the President for the position of Brigadier General and he presumed Tyler would be confirmed by the Senate, that this would result in the appointments of Lieutenant Colonel [William R.] Creighton as Colonel, Major [John S.] Casement as Lieutenant Colonel, and himself as Major if the rule of seniority was adhered to as he supposed it would be, that Governor David Tod had assured him that the rule would be observed in all appointments unless a change should be made for special reasons, that the positions had been well and gloriously earned in the battle of Winchester, that in his case, the position was also dearly earned from a wound received a short time before the close of the fight, that it was now nearly six weeks and he could only walk about the house, and that it looked as if he would not be able to go back to duty before the middle of June if so soon; requesting that if a commission was issued for him and before the middle of June, that it be sent to Warren; stating that his name was not printed correctly in Adjutant General C.P. Buckingham's report, and that he wished to have it properly written; and congratulating Hill upon his appointment to the very important position he now held.

N[ewton] Schleich, Colonel, [61st Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry]. To Adjutant General C.P. Buckingham. Letter providing a statement of the men that Meder, Booth, and Edmonson said they had in camp; and stating that Meder, Booth, and Edmonson said they had enough men for a full company if they were allowed transportation to bring them into camp, that he had no personal knowledge on the subject and it seemed that men had neither sense enough or honesty enough to furnish him any, and that if it was possible to grant transportation passes, he would appreciate it if Buckingham could do so.
