Letter written on behalf of her husband who had been for some months in the Quartermaster's Department in western Virginia; and stating that her husband had been offered an office several times, but she could not think of him occupying a place fraught with such dangers, and that her husband was now so anxious to secure an office that she was writing to request that Dennison use his influence to get her husband a commission as Captain or Adjutant.

Letter stating that the Lieutenant Colonelcy of the regiment being vacant, all concurred in the propriety of Major Eugene Powell's promotion to fill the vacancy and the promotion of Adjutant William M. Gwynne to the Majority, and that he witnessed Gwynne's heroic efforts in the late battle of Port Republic and could say that no single officer displayed more bravery or contributed more in holding the enemy in check, repulsing them, and retaking the battery over which they fought.

Letter stating that he felt the need to reenlist, that he wanted to raise a company, that he had served ten months in the 3rd Kansas Regiment (Infantry) and was discharged in consequence of having received a wound in his left arm near the shoulder, that he had so far recovered from the effects of the shot that he could handle a revolver with his left hand while he was able to give as severe a sword cut with his right as ever he could, that he would prefer being in a cavalry regiment, and that in recruiting for their companies, several Captains had been disappointed because they did not swear in their recruits when they found them; and asking if he could have the power of a recruiting officer, secure as many as possible, and reserve the first hundred for a company for himself.
