Hollinger, Company F, 16th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Bears the endorsement of Philip Kershner, Major, Commanding 16th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and W[illiam] R. Monroe, Captain, Company F, 16th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

Mrs. B.F. Powers, Eaton, Preble County, Ohio. To Governor [William] Dennison. Letter written on behalf of her husband who had been for some months in the Quartermaster's Department in western Virginia; and stating that her husband had been offered an office several times, but she could not think of him occupying a place fraught with such dangers, and that her husband was now so anxious to secure an office that she was writing to request that Dennison use his influence to get her husband a commission as Captain or Adjutant.

Official copy of Special Order No. 72; stating that 1st Lieutenant William Massie, 30th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry had tendered the resignation of his commission on account of physical disability, that the same was accepted, and that Massie was honorably discharged from the service. Gwynne of the 66th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry was a candidate for promotion to the Majorship of said regiment; recommending Gwynne as a suitable person for such promotion; and stating that at the battle of Port Republic, Gwynne was in the thickest of the fight and greatly distinguished himself by his gallantry.

Letter recommending Adjutant William M. Gwynne of the 66th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry for promotion to the office of Major of said regiment; and stating that Gwynne greatly distinguished himself in the battle at Port Republic.

Joseph C. Brand, Quartermaster, 66th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Camp near Manassas, Virginia. To Governor David Tod. Letter stating that the Lieutenant Colonelcy of the regiment being vacant, all concurred in the propriety of Major Eugene Powell's promotion to fill the vacancy and the promotion of Adjutant William M. Gwynne to the Majority, and that he witnessed Gwynne's heroic efforts in the late battle of Port Republic and could say that no single officer displayed more bravery or contributed more in holding the enemy in check, repulsing them, and retaking the battery over which they fought.

Gwynne to the position of Major of the regiment to fill the vacancy occasioned by the recent promotion of Eugene Powell; and stating that Gwynne's gallantry at the battle of Port Republic had gained him the esteem and confidence of all who saw him.

Letter stating that he had learned that Adjutant [William M.] Gwynne had made application for promotion to the position of Major of the 66th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and that he took pleasure in bearing testimony to Gwynne's uniform and soldierly conduct during his connection with Shields' Division.

Gwynne, Adjutant of the 66th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, was a candidate for the appointment of Major in his regiment, and that Gwynne had shown himself, on all occasions, to be one of the most efficient and tireless officers of the command, ready equally for the march or the battlefield.

Letter stating that he wished to be informed in regard to enlisting men from outside of Portage County if they should come into the county, that if he could not do so, there should be a stop put to men in Portage County going outside of the county to enlist, that there were eight or ten men enlisted outside of the county, and that two of these men wished to be transferred to him or to the company.

Letter signed by forty-eight commissioned and non-commissioned officers and Privates of Company G, 3rd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry; and recommending Sergeant Major William A. Curry of Company G to fill the vacancy of 2nd Lieutenant in said company.

Letter stating that he had not received his commission as 1st Lieutenant in the 33rd Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and that there was a vacancy in the Adjutancy of the regiment and he had been detailed by the commanding officer as Acting Adjutant; and asking whether the Adjutant was still appointed by the Governor or if the appointment by the regimental commander entitled him to the pay and emoluments of said office.

J. Stanton Weaver, Salem, Columbiana County, Ohio. To the Governor of Ohio. Letter stating that he felt the need to reenlist, that he wanted to raise a company, that he had served ten months in the 3rd Kansas Regiment (Infantry) and was discharged in consequence of having received a wound in his left arm near the shoulder, that he had so far recovered from the effects of the shot that he could handle a revolver with his left hand while he was able to give as severe a sword cut with his right as ever he could, that he would prefer being in a cavalry regiment, and that in recruiting for their companies, several Captains had been disappointed because they did not swear in their recruits when they found them; and asking if he could have the power of a recruiting officer, secure as many as possible, and reserve the first hundred for a company for himself.
